I am writing to request home care for Mrs Malala Yousafzai who is being discharged toady following a total right shoulder replacement for right shoulder osteoarthritis. Her daughter will stay with her for one month in her single-storey house following her discharge today.


Mrs Yousafzai's post-operative phase was largely uneventful. She has been compliant with her physiotherapy and exercise regime. Post-operatively, her blood remain in normal limits and pain was managed with analgesia and a cold compression for four hours each day.


Upon discharge, the Mrs Yousafzai was educated regarding post-operative care. She will wear a right arm sling for five weeks, and will require physiotherapy in the outpatient’s clinic thrice a week and hydrotherapy twice a week. She needs to avoid heavy lifting for five weeks.


Mrs Yousafzai will require assistance with showering and administration of her prescription Clexane injection, which is to be administered five days as DVT prophylaxis. Her staples are scheduled to be removed with a follow-up appointment in the Orthopedic Joint Replacement Outpatient Department on day 11. In case of any emergency, the nurse specialist can be contacted by calling the hospital during the week.
