What does a heart attack feel like
The most
significant complaint with which patients come to see a cardiologist is chest
pain. So, I have seen patients from kids having chest pain to older adults
having chest pain. And most of the time, they get panicked. In this article I'm
going to talk about which pain is essential.
I will first
explain to you how it does cardiac pain is called heart attack pain, or in
technical terms, it's called angina.
What does
a heart attack feel like? or How does heart attack feel?
Imagine an
elephant sitting on the top of your chest. Rather than pain, it will be a
discomfort, and such compressive pain will be there. It'll last for more than
two to three minutes. And the pain may radiate to your, both arms, shoulder, jaw,
neck, and back. It will be associated with sweating and breathing difficulty
and dizziness. You don't need to all have the associated features also.
You have
heard about how anginal pain becomes to known as a heart attack.
Now I'll
tell you,
What is
not an anginal pain?
First
Any pain associated
with just a particular spot, for example, a finger-pointing sign. You say the
pain is only here, doctor, or only here. It is not anginal pain. It is not
anginal pain. The pain is diffuse. It is everywhere.
Second
Secondly,
any pain which lasts for a, a second, which comes and goes, a pricking pain, a
flash of pain, which comes for a second and goes, is not anginal pain. It is not
associated with a heart attack. You may not worry about it. It is probably a Musculoskeleton or a bone pain.
The next
type of pain is shoulder pain. For example, if you have shoulder pain, or neck
pain, you first move your limb, move your left arm or right arm, wherever the
pain is. And if that movement causes more pain, that is not heart-related. It
is probably muscle pain or bone pain.
Third
The third
thing is if you walk for a certain distance, you get a choking feeling and
stop. And the pain also disappears. You continue to walk you again, get the
same pain. It is most probably an anginal pain, caused by the heart.
What do you need to do if you have a heart attack?
Approach a doctor, and do a treadmilltest (TMT).
What do they do in a treadmill test at TMT?
In a TMT,
they connect ECGs. They will create the same scenario of what you are walking
in daily activities. So, when you do a TMT, some ECG changes give clues. Whether
your pain is related to the heart or a noncardiac pain.
What to
do when you are unable to decide the heart attack?
Say you have
chest pain, and you are not able to decipher whether the pain is cardiac or
noncardiac.
Ask the question yourself. Are you a woman or man women?
Usually less
than age 40 or 45 women does not develop heart attacks. So, the chances of you having
a heart attack in a woman is much less.
Men at any
age can get heart attacks. So, the next question is, do you smoke? If you are a
smoker? Yes. Then, chances of you having a heart problem are very high. So, you
can imagine and take, yes, I am a smoker. I am a gay. At this age, I’m extremely
stressed out, not exercising on following unhealthy diet. So, this pain may be
cardiac. So, I need to talk to a doctor.
Patients
usually ask,
Whether
acidity causes a heart attack or the heart attack causes acidity?
It is just
that the heart pain mimics acid reflux. So, any unexpected or, you know,
untoward pain, which has happened or which has not previously happened for you.
For example, you take a chicken or oily food. You get an acid that
reflects acidity. Okay. If you develop an acid problem without having it. Then,
it would be best if you were very cautious without having all kinds of oily
foods. It can mimic, you know, a heart attack and mimic a similar type of pain.
Suppose you have a pain in the, you know, stomach area, and you start to sweat,
and the pain radiates up to your jaw to the back. Then it would help if you
were cautious.
