I am writing to refer Stuart Little, a 6-week-old baby boy. He has mild constipation and dehydration. Therefore, his mother, Mrs Little Flower Charles requires support regarding breastfeeding and formula preparation.

 

Mrs Flower has presented to our facility today with a concern about Stuart’s constipation. He had three wet nappies in the past 24 hours with dark urine. His physical examination revealed that he was mildly dehydrated and lethargic. However, he has gained 1000 gm since his birth.

 

Mrs Flower delivered Stuart through a normal delivery with the birth weight of 3400 gm. Even though she breast-fed him for the first three weeks, she was advised to initiate formula feeding, as she was sick. She believes that the breast milk is good for her baby and is anxious about insufficient breast milk. She also reported that the baby has not been comfortable with bottle feeding.

 

It would be appreciated if you could educate Mrs Flower about breast feeding method and formula preparation. Kindly advise her to keep the baby cool in hot weather and to supplement the feeding with boiled and cooled water, if she continues.
