Osteomyelitis Patient VS Nurse

Nurse : Hello Christ, my name is Oetans. I’m one of the registered nurses working in this ward.

Patient : Good morning..

Nurse : Hello good morning Christ. I am here to check how your condition is developing and responding to the treatment. Okay thus I would have to monitor your wound take temperature pulse and blood pressure and also check your intravenous drip. All right Christ, at first I would like to know how you are doing right now..

Patient : I have been feeling a bit feverish since I woke up today and still I am in a lot of pain..

Nurse : Oh, I see try not to worry Christ. The fever and pain are the symptoms of your condition osteomyelitis. You have been administering IV antibiotics. The reduction in fever is due to the effect of antibiotics.. All right, by the way I would like to get more details about the pain. It will be great if you can share what you feel about the change and level of pain..

Patient : The pain isn’t any better or worse than it was before..

Nurse : I am sorry to hear that by the way do you have pain in any other location or any new pain experience..

Patient : Nurse, I really don’t understand why you are asking about the changes in pain..

Nurse : Your thoughts are really sensible. I will explain the reasons for exploring changes in pain..

Patient : That will be great..

Nurse : First of all it is a very important part in the monitoring of your condition. The importance of monitoring is to analyze how well the treatment procedures are doing on your condition and to check whether there is a possible sign of secondary infection. Am I clear to you..

Patient :  Yes nurse..

Nurse : Definitely Christ. I advise you to communicate with us if there are any changes in pain..

Patient : Of course I will communicate with you..

Nurse : Well Christ. Do you have any concerns to be clarified..

Patient : Yes nurse. I need some clarifications..

Nurse : No worries Christ. I’m here to clarify your concerns. You may please proceed..

Patient : Nurse I am not very clear why I can’t take antibiotic tablets instead of the drip..

Nurse : IV drip is more effective in this stage and once your infection is under control we can switch you to oral antibiotics. Am I clear..

Patient : Yes nurse, and when I can go home..

Nurse : Your question is really understandable; however, I would like to make you aware about a few things before answering your question. I request your cooperation please..

Patient : Sure nurse. I will listen to you. You may please proceed..

Nurse : Thank you Christ. There are different treatment stages before the discharge. I’ll explain it to you..

Patient : Oh okay..

Nurse : First stage of the treatment focuses on controlling infection..

Patient : Yes I understand that..

Nurse : Followed by stabilizing your health condition as I mentioned before we can change IV antibiotics to oral antibiotics..

Patient : I am much awaited for that stage..

Nurse : All right, next being the stage before the discharge it will be initiated by establishing a self-medication routine..

Patient : Oh okay..

Nurse : These are the stages you have to go through before the discharge..

Patient : All right nurse.

Nurse : Currently, you are in the first stage and your health needs to be improved..

Patient : All right nurse. I understand that and it was a really good explanation nurse.

Nurse : Thank you. Good to hear that Christ..

Patient : Nurse, how long would I have to take antibiotics..

Nurse : Christ talking about your antibiotics several more days you will be given intravenously in the hospital and about four to six weeks you have to take the antibiotics in tablet form at home..

Patient : Okay nurse. I will follow the instructions..

Nurse : That’s great to hear. Now Christ can I have your consent to begin the required clinical checks..

Patient : Sure of course you may please..

Nurse : Thank you for the consent..
